Primary Role:
To plan, instruct, and organize an instructional environment which helps students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Qualifications:
- minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
- current North Carolina teaching license in special education related area
Required Experience:
- Prior teaching experience is preferred, but not required
Skills:
The Teacher is required to follow all Board policies and to comply with the instructions/directives from his/her supervisor(s). In addition, the Teacher shall perform in a manner that meets the following Standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach up to 30 periods per week (with a 45 period work week)
- Maintain communication with parents. Respond to email and phone calls within 24 hours.
- Grade student work regularly and keep Power School updated.
- Take accurate attendance each period.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences.
- Work collaboratively with grade level and department members which may require training of teachers in meeting EC students’ needs
- Shall be available to offer after school tutoring and activities such as clubs or special interest groups
- Implement effective classroom management. Keep accurate documentation of incidents.
- Regularly assess students, both formative and summative.
- Collect and analyze student performance data. Use data to influence instruction.
- Be prepared daily for quality instruction including appropriate standards based lesson and materials. Teachers shall submit lesson plans on time as requested by administration.
- Carry out non-instructional duties as assigned
- Attend staff meetings, inservices, and trainings
- Arrive to work on time and maintain good work attendance
- Establish and maintain a safe classroom environment
- Maintain student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities and comply with state and federal education statutes
- Serve as case coordinator for students on assigned caseload
- Adapt, modify, or develop materials to meet the individual needs of EC students
- Provide direct instruction and inclusion support of EC students
- Responsible for the development of an IEP for EC students on assigned caseload
- Implements the IEP for EC students
- Track and monitor data collection for IEP goals for EC students
- Complete IEP progress reports as required to communicate progress with parents
- Ensure that student files contain all required EC documents
- Effectively manage teacher assistant(s) to meet the individual needs of the EC students
- Follow all Board policies
- Maintain confidentiality of all student, parent, and staff information
- Other duties, as assigned, by supervisor/administrator
